Purpose & Explanation
The project will replace the existing, 100-year-old, 6" diameter water main on N. Oviatt Street with a new 8" diameter waterline from E. Streetsboro Street, approximately 1,600 feet north to the Aurora Street. The project also includes the replacement of water services within the right-of-way between the main line and the sidewalk. This section of waterline has had 14 breaks over the last twenty years, continues to be a maintenance issue for the City Public Works Department, and was the highest ranked segment of water main to be replaced in the 2015 Water Main Rankings study. West Case Drive is the next highest rated waterline to be replaced, with 12 breaks since 1997. Besides reducing maintenance and interruptions to the residents, the new water line will improve fire flows in this area near the Hudson Schools and Western Reserve Campus.

The Engineering Department will be scheduling a public meeting this March to review the plans and discuss the project with the public prior to finalizing the design and bidding the project. The construction of the project is currently scheduled for the summer of 2021 and is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2021, while schools are out of session. The roadway trench will be patched in 2021. The asphalt resurfacing of N. Oviatt Street will take place in 2022 after construction at the nearby school is complete.
