A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS AND TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT FOR THE REPAIR OF TWO (2) PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES WEST OF THE FIRE STATION AND REPLACEMENT OF A PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE EAST OF BARLOW COMMUNITY CENTER.

None.
Purpose & Explanation
This project involves repairing two existing pedestrian bridges-located north of Ravenna Street and west of the fire station-and replacing a third bridge at the eastern end of the Barlow Community Center property. The bridge slated for replacement has exceeded its useful life and is beginning to fail.
Repairs to the existing bridges will include deck restoration, timber railing repairs, foundation sealing, and the installation of scour protection. The replacement bridge will be of a similar size; staff anticipates utilizing a pre-fabricated structure that will be manufactured off-site and installed once the existing bridge is removed. For public safety, portions of the adjacent trail system will be closed during construction.
The estimated construction cost is $225,000, including a contingency fund. Work is anticipated to be completed in summer/fall 2026.
Following the approval of this Resolution by City Council, the Engineering Department will advertise in the local newspaper and receive bids for this project. Staff will only return to Council if the bids received are in excess of 10% of the Engineer's Estimate; otherwise, the City Manager is authorized to enter into a contract with the lowest and best bidder.
