Purpose & Explanation
With a strong focus on cyber security over the past several years, the IT Department has taken significant steps to improve the City's security posture by applying best practices in the realm of Windows, servers, software, and Active Directory security. We now turn our focus to network infrastructure improvements to reinforce our system and keep insurance rate premiums low. During the past several months, we have been working with an enterprise networking consultant to redesign the City's network to account for the change in needs over the past several years. Most of the existing network infrastructure was installed over 8 years ago and was configured to account for operations almost a decade ago.

The redesign shifts focus away from the Police Department as a core headend and leans more on the Milford datacenter and City Hall datacenters as the new core(s) of the network. This approach improves network security, redundancy, and delivers critical infrastructure connectivity which will be improved with this dual headend design.

As part of this project, almost all existing networking equipment will be replaced in the various City buildings. This will improve the ability to expand for future growth of the city network without sacrificing network security and connectivity. Once completed, this network will be able to serve the needs of the city for the next 8 years of growth...
