Title: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR A FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE POLICE VEHICLE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. Executive Summary: The 2013 City of Hudson Budget provides for the replacement of one marked police cruiser at a cost of $30,000. As previously discussed during budget meetings, the Police Department would like to purchase a four wheel drive vehicle to replace the supervisors’ cruiser. This purchase would give the police department an emergency response with four wheel drive that it presently does not have, in a platform that will allow for the carrying of more equipment and passengers, something the present cruiser configuration lacks.

Body
Legislative History
A four wheel drive police package vehicle was approved in the 2013 budget under “Equipment Replacement”.
Purpose & Explanation
Council may recall that based on the approved replacement schedule, the police department was due for three new cruisers in 2013, but in actuality, based on mileage, only one cruiser was needed in 2013.
The replacement vehicle is for the supervisor’s cruiser (ID #7; year: 2010 CVPI; 102,866 miles on 3/19/13). Looking at two available platforms with four-wheel drive capability, a staff decision was made to go with the Chevrolet Tahoe, a proven police package platform.
Byers Chevrolet won the state contract at $29,766.00 for a vehicle similarly equipped to our cruisers. Two other quotes were requested and Van Devere Chevrolet returned with a price of $30,593.50, while Montrose Auto Group was at $31,357.90 for the same model.
Timing Considerations
We are requesting that a purchase agreement would take place immediately upon the approval of Council, due to a change in 2013 deadline for ordering the Chevrolet Tahoe of April 4, 2013.
