Purpose & Explanation
Each year, the Ohio Statehouse sets aside Capital Budget funds for local community projects. City staff has reviewed potential projects eligible for funding and is recommending applying for the design and construction of a new storm water management pond at Ellsworth Golf Course. This new storm pond would assist to alleviate overland flooding occurring at Nicholson Drive. See map of storm water pond location attached.
The estimated cost of the project design is $65,000 and the estimated cost of construction is $445,000 for a total project cost of $510,000. If awarded, the grant would pay up to 50% of eligible costs or $255,000 (1/2 of $510,000 = $255,000).
Projects are submitted through State Legislators. Submitted projects are compiled and forwarded to the State of Ohio Finance Subcommittee and then go through the full legislative process. Project funding is not guaranteed. If awarded, the grant funds would be eligible in 2022-2023.
Staff is seeking an emergency clause as the grant applications are due March 18, 2022.
