A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH AtNet Plus FOR A STORAGE AREA NETWORK, VIRTUAL MACHINE SERVER, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT
body
Executive Summary
Staff is requesting authorization to purchase a storage area network (SAN) and virtual machine (VM) server to allow for the completion of phase two of this project.  We are able to obtain the equipment from AtNet Plus at a price that is lower than the State of Ohio Cooperative Purchasing Program.
Legislative History
In 2011, Council authorized a contract to purchase a SAN and VM server as part of phase one of this project.
Purpose & Explanation
The installation of the SAN and VM server reduces the number of city servers from ten down to two.  The first SAN was installed at the Police Station in 2011 and this second SAN will be installed at the Public Works building on Georgetown. In addition to consolidating servers, this project will save on licensing, maintenance and power consumption; improve the backup system and disaster recovery; reduce city staff time needed to maintain the system; and increase our storage capability.
Timing Considerations
None.
Fiscal Impact
X        Currently Budgeted  ($35,000 for the SAN and $10,000 for the VM server)
        Supplemental Appropriation Required
        Appropriation Not Required.
Suggested Action
Recommendation
Staff recommends City Council authorize the purchase of the SAN and VM server in an amount not to exceed $37,211.06 from AtNet Plus.
