Purpose & Explanation

The Hudson Police Department, the Hudson Fire Department and Hudson Emergency Medical Services are seeking grant funding for equipment necessary in the formation of an Active Shooter Rescue Task Force Team. The Team will have the capability to perform a coordinated rapid response to an active shooter situation at a school, community event or location in Hudson. Equipment costs, including ballistic vests, helmets and shields for the Hudson Fire Department and Hudson EMS, as well as rescue and medical equipment, are estimated at $55,000. The Team is seeking a $25,000 grant from Northern Ohio Golf Charities & Foundation.  The Team will seek grants and donations to fund this project.

 

Timing Considerations

Grant requests are accepted August 15-September 30, 2018.  Awards are announced February 2019.

Staff recommends City Council authorize the City Manager, or her designee, to apply for grant funding from the Northern Ohio Golf Charities & Foundation for the Active Shooter Rescue Task Force Team on behalf of the Hudson Police Department, the Hudson Fire Department, and Hudson Emergency Medical Services.
