Purpose & Explanation
The contractor for the Middleton Road Sidewalk Phase 2 had completed the sidewalk and grading and was preparing to install the final grass seed when a severe storm struck on August 8, 2024. As a result, the project will require the repair of undermined concrete sidewalk, the restoration of ditch lines, the re-grading of yards, and the reinstallation of topsoil and seed. These improvements will ensure proper storm drainage and a safe sidewalk along the affected sections of Middleton Road.
Additionally, field inspections revealed areas that could benefit from additional storm improvements to capture more runoff during storms. To address these issues, staff recommends reestablishing the original grading plan and installing the necessary storm improvements. This will allow the project to be completed successfully and open to the public.
During the course of the project construction, staff identified a number of contract modifications requiring the use of the entire Council approved project contingency.
Therefore, staff is requesting Council approval to execute a change order with Anthony Allega Cement Contractor for an additional $56,000 in project funds in order to repair damaged sections of sidewalk and finish project construction.
