Legislative History
Resolution 19-185: Authorized staff to seek competitive pricing on goods and services including Snow Control: PP Snow and Ice Removal.
Purpose & Explanation
The Public Works Department contracts for the snow and ice control on publicly maintained properties. This includes the following: downtown business district sidewalks; City-owned properties; specific school crosswalks; municipal parking deck; City-owned parking lots; public greens, First & Main sidewalks and parking lots, and public buildings. Bids were opened on July 2, 2020 and one bid was received for this service. This bid was provided by H & M Snow Pros, Inc. who has held the contract previously. The bid tabulation has been attached and includes a 9.00% increase in costs. H&M has stated that a majority of the increase is in driver wages as it has become increasingly difficult to find safe, reliable drivers. That total annual contract amount is $259,545.00. This is an increase from $238,594.00 in the previous contract term. The contract does allow for a two-year extension if services are acceptable and pricing remains reasonable.
Timing Considerations
Upon City Council approval, the Public Works Staff will execute the Public Properties snow and ice control contract for the term of November 1, 2020 through May 31, 2022.
