Brief Description: Staff will present an overview of the storm event including a timeline, statistics and data, maps, response information, any pending issues as well as any short- and long-term mitigation plans.  We will also review how this event compared to the 2003 flood.

Purpose & Explanation

The purpose of this discussion is to allow City staff give a summary of the flooding event that occurred on August 8, 2024.  Staff is still compiling data and will provide details at the meeting. 

The agenda will generally be as follows:

Timeline - including start/stop of rainfall, emergency/public works response, safety alerts

Statistics/Data - including amount of rainfall, number of calls, homes flooded, vehicle issues

Response Information - which departments responded, tasks performed, time period

Pending Issues - household/neighborhood cleanup, possible FEMA funding

Mitigation Plans - overview of what’s already been done in the most impacted area and ideas/plans for future mitigation.

Comparison to 2003 flood event - information/data compiled from 2003 as compared to 2024

 

Attached to this memo is a map showing the reported flooding area.  The main concentration of calls came from the northeast quadrant of the City.
