Purpose & Explanation
Staff sought funding from FEMA through a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to fund the continuation of the Fire Safe Senior Program that was initiated through Fire Prevention & Safety Grant funding in 2019. The Fire Safe Senior program provides free fire safety products for Hudson residents over 65 that are living independently in their own homes. Funds will used to purchase secure key boxes and carbon monoxide detectors for distribution to qualifying residents. The Hudson Fire Department was awarded $46,342.86 on September 11, 2020. The City's match is $2,318.14. The City has received a quote from the Knox Company (see attached), sole source provider of the secure key box system in the amount of $41,160.00 that includes 168 key boxes plus shipping and handling. The Knox Companies secure key box system is currently used by the City of Hudson Fire & EMS Departments, and we have over 450 Knox boxes currently in use at commercial and residential locations in Hudson. The remaining balance of the grant funding will be used to purchase approximately 250 carbon monoxide detectors in an amount not to exceed $7,500.00
