Title
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 874, “MOBILE FOOD VEHICLES”, OF THE BUSINESS REGULATION CODE.
Brief Description: Chapter 874 Mobile Food Trucks
Body
Legislative History
2016-55; 2017-13
Purpose & Explanation
Food trucks (aka Mobile Food Preparation Vehicles) are regulated per Chapter 874 of the Codified Ordinances. As a part of the Chapter 872 Temporary Special Event updates, mobile food preparation vehicles were also examined.
The primary purpose of the Chapter 874 update is to establish consistent terminology throughout the ordinance that mirrors the language used in the Ohio Fire Code. The revisions are intended to clarify and standardize existing provisions without making substantive changes to the current licensing requirements or operating regulations.
The only new substantive provision is Section 874.05, Prohibited, which would limit food truck operations to commercial districts unless otherwise approved by the City Manager or the City Manager’s designee. The provision also allows consideration of exceptions for graduation parties and private parties in residential districts.
Section 874.05 was developed based on Council discussion and may be retained or removed from the final ordinance, depending on Council’s direction.
