Purpose & Explanation
Originally established by Hudson Community Service in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Hudson, the Safety Town program has been operating locally between 50-60 years.  This summer program is operated and funded by Hudson Community Education & Recreation (HCER) and features nine half days of comprehensive learning for children entering into Kindergarten.  In the past, classes have been held using temporary structures, set up in the parking lots at Hudson Elementary and Evamere Elementary Schools.
The Permanent Safety Town Committee, in cooperation with Hudson City Schools and Hudson Kiwanis, was formed with the goal of constructing a permanent Safety Town on School property, and is requesting a grant of $10,000 from the City, as well as donations from the community to support this project.  The total project cost is estimated at approximately $70,000.

Recommendation
Suggested Action
Staff recognizes the importance of the permanent safety town installation and recommends that Council provide the Interim City Manager with direction regarding a grant of $10,000 from the City to offset some of the costs associated to the electrical work and other utility work that is associated with the project.
