Executive Summary:   The City of Hudson, the Hudson School District and Hudson Community First are partnering to bring a heroin awareness program to the Hudson community.

Legislative History
None; however, Mr. DeSaussure discussed the need to understand and address the heroin problem at the January 6, 2015, City Council meeting.
Purpose & Explanation
In partnering with the Hudson School District and Hudson Community First, the City of Hudson will help support education of both students and the community through classroom presentations, a community-wide presentation, a helpline and an awareness campaign on the Hudson Police Department's prescription drug drop-off program.  The theme of the campaign will be NO ONE STARTS WITH HEROIN.
The Hudson School District has committed $2,500.00. Hudson Community First has committed $2500.00.  The City of Hudson will commit $2,500.00.  Additional grant funding is also being sought.
Timing Considerations
Staff requests emergency legislation to begin the program immediately.  The kick-off event for the campaign is to take place April 20, 2015, and a long-term educational programming and awareness campaign will continue.

Staff recommends City Council approve this Resolution to assist with funding of the Keep Hudson Safe Initiative Heroin Awareness Campaign.
