Legislative History
At the Tuesday, May 13, 2014 Council Workshop, Representatives from the Leadership Hudson Class of 2014 and a member of the Environmental Awareness Committee proposed to fund a Solar Panel System on the roof of Barlow Community Center funded entirely by grants and donations. The goal of the group was to raise $50,000 for panels to generate 1/3 of the building's power. Council found this concept acceptable and directed staff to work with Leadership Hudson Class of 2014 to make this a viable project.
Purpose & Explanation
Leadership Hudson Class of 2014 has raised approximately $50,000 towards their class project to install solar panels on Barlow Community Center. Based on this amount, approximately 1/3 of the power for Barlow Community Center will be generated by solar power.
The DEED grant can provide funding of up to $40,000 for additional panels that would raise the solar power generation to approximately 50% of the power for the building.
Timing Considerations
The grant application is due August 15, 2015.
Awards will be announced at the end of September or early October, 2015.
