Discussion:  City of Hudson Water System Ranking

Executive Summary:  The City Staff has created a Draft Ranking of the City’s Water Distribution System in an effort to identify the worst condition water mains in need of replacement.

Body

Legislative History

None.

Purpose & Explanation

The City Staff has generated a ranking of the City’s water piping system to identify those segments of water mains that have the highest need of replacement or improvement.  The rankings were generated by the following four categories:  (1) number of breaks, (2) pipe diameter, (3) pipe age and (4) roadway pavement condition.  In addition, a cost estimate to repair or improve the worst 20 mains within the distribution system was identified.  The top 20 ranked water mains can be found on the attached spreadsheet and map.

The City Staff was able to generate the rankings by utilizing information found in the City’s GIS database, the City’s Master Water Plan and review and input by the Public Works and Fire Department staff.

 Timing Considerations

The City will be utilizing the approved Water System Ranking for future Capital Budget requests.
