Body

Legislative History

Resolution 14-155 to advertise for bids including road salt conveyance services.

Purpose & Explanation

The City uses an average of 10,000 tons of road salt annually in carrying out the snow and ice control program.   The Public Works Department has received road salt conveyance quotes from both Community, University and Education (CUE) public purchasing program vendor Cargill Incorporated, and Kolenz Transport, Inc. to convey bulk road salt in to the salt dome. Below is a price breakdown comparison.  The annual budget for road salt conveying services is $35,000.

Vendor 1: Conveyed by CUE vendor, Cargill Incorporated: $3.50/ton

Vendor 2: Conveyed by Kolenz: $3.30/ton (net savings over Vendor 1 = $0.20/ton x 10,000 tons = $2,000)

Timing Considerations

Upon City Council approval, the Public Works Staff will execute the purchase agreement for contract road salt conveying services for the 2015-2016 winter season.
