Purpose & Explanation
Ohio Humanities, established in 1972, is a 501(c)(3) organization funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and private contributions. Ohio Humanities aims "to increase Ohioans' appreciation and understanding of the humanities" through the Council's grant-making capacity and through programs developed by the Council itself. Based in Columbus but operating state-wide, the Council provides assistance to grant applicants, oversees Council-developed programs, and promotes the humanities in Ohio through collaborations with cultural and educational institutions. The Council is governed by a volunteer board which makes decisions on grant awards and sets policy.
