Purpose & Explanation
A Request for Proposals for the aerial installation of fiber-optic cable to continue the business broadband system build-out was sent out and advertised publicly per the City Charter. The Public Works Department received and reviewed two (2) bids for this service as related to the City broadband project.
Following thorough bid reviews, staff is recommending Thayer Power & Communication as the lowest and best bidder for aerial fiber-optic cable installation services. Thayer has performed work in Hudson as a subcontractor for Windstream and is familiar with the area. A price sheet has been attached for review.
The City Administration is requesting City Council approve and authorize the City Manager to award and enter into a contract with Thayer Power & Communication for the aerial fiber-optic cable installation. Staff is requesting a 15% contingency for any unforeseen issues that may arise during construction.
Total Contract amount = $132,118 (54,145 -base + 60,740 -alternates + 17,233-contingency)
Timing Considerations
Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will award and enter into a contract with Thayer Power & Communication. Staff requests emergency legislation to expedite the aerial work.
