Title

A RESOLUTION COMMITTING TO PROVIDE MATCHING FUNDS IF A “CONNECTING COMMUNITIES” PLANNING GRANT IS AWARDED BY THE AKRON METROPOLITAN AREA TRANSPORTATION STUDY (“AMATS”) FOR THE PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF VETERANS TRAIL - DOWNTOWN PHASE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

Executive Summary:  This Resolution will confirm to AMATS that the City would provide matching funds if awarded a Connecting Communities Planning Grant.

Body

Legislative History

Council originally authorized the grant application on May 17, 2016, with passage of Resolution No. 16-82 on the consent agenda.

Purpose & Explanation

The City of Hudson submitted a grant application for AMATS’ Connecting Communities program.  The grants are used to improve the integration between land use and transportation in communities in the AMATS jurisdiction.  Hudson’s funding would be used to determine trail routing from the library southward to Veterans Park.  Routes to study will be State Route 303 east to State Route 91 south and State Route 303 west to Milford Road south.  For each corridor trail routing within the public right of way versus rear yard or behind-building options will be studied.  Council was informed of the $35,000 scope of work with a $19,000 grant request and a $16,000 local match in May; however, the resolution itself did not explicitly state the local match commitment.  AMATS is requiring the application to state in Section 1 “… with an estimated project cost of $35,000,  and a grant request of $19,000, and a local City of Hudson match of $ 16,000”.
