Title

Discussion of the Environmental Awareness Committee’s Request for a Recycling Center in Downtown Phase II

Executive Summary:   Mr. Ed Resnick, Environmental Awareness Committee Chairman, is presenting a letter to Council, requesting a recycling center in the Downtown Phase II development.

Body

Legislative History

None.

Purpose & Explanation

The Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) is requesting Council consider a recycling area / center as part of the Downtown Phase II development.  As business recycling is a goal of the EAC, and as the EAC is dedicated to encouraging and providing access for all businesses and residents, including multi-unit dwellings, to recycle, the EAC believes a common recycling area / center for use by both Phase I and Phase II business tenants is an important and achievable goal.

As the City’s former recycling drop-off area has been relocated to 2400 Barlow Road, there is little to no immediate access for current First & Main and Main Street businesses to recycle.  A small recycling center in the downtown area would provide improved access and would encourage recycling.

Timing Considerations

None.

Recommendation

Suggested Action

The Environmental Awareness Committee requests that City Council support its recommendation that the downtown development include a recycling area / center for use by downtown businesses.
