Title

A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING “MERINO WAY” AS AN HONORARY STREET NAME AND PROVIDING FOR LOCATION OF A SIGN ON PARK LANE AT THE INTERSECTION OF FIRST STREET.

Body

Legislative History

A similar honor was bestowed on Ada Cooper Miller in 2013.

Purpose & Explanation

Richard “Rich” Merino was born in the historic Baldwin, Buss, Merino house on Hudson’s village green in 1921 and, except for his years in the Navy during WWII and his final years, lived in that home his entire life.  Rich owned Merino’s Beer and Wine in Hudson established by his father in 1946.  The building in which the shop was located was near his home on Park Lane and was later relocated around the corner to First Street.  Rich was a tremendous athlete and was an inductee into the Hudson High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rich passed away last July.  A letter requesting this recognition of Council for a beloved lifelong member of the community was submitted by Mr. Jerry Flauto on behalf of over 300 persons on July 24, 2016.  The honorary street name sign would be placed on Park Lane at First Street, near the location of Rich’s business and home.

An example of the honorary street name sign for Rich Merino is attached.
