A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE ORKEESWA SCHOOL IN ORKEESWA VILLAGE, TANZANIA, AFRICA, BY DESIGNATING THE SCHOOL AS A TOUCHSTONE AND POINT OF CONTACT FOR THE COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING VULNERABLE POPULATIONS WHEREVER THEY MAY BE AND AN INDICATION OF THE DESIRE TO FOCUS EFFORTS TOWARD THE SOLUTION OF GLOBAL PROBLEMS.
Executive Summary: The Hudson Middle School Student Council has recently selected the Orkeeswa School in Tanzania, Africa, as their new world focus and has asked the City to partner with them in promoting and cultivating support for Orkeeswa School. HMS representatives will be present to provide additional information and formally request Council’s support for this Resolution.

Resolution No. 09-43, similarly established adoption of the Ubumi Transit Home, an orphanage in Kitwe Zambia (“Ubumi, Africa”), passed April 15, 2009.
Purpose & Explanation
With closure of the Ubumi orphanage in 2015, HMS Student Council began looking for a new world focus. After much research, the Student Council decided to create a global connection between Hudson Middle School and the Orkeeswa School in Tanzania, Africa.
Timing Considerations
During late March 2017, HMS Student Council will conduct “A Buck for Orkeeswa Week,” and this community fundraising effort will benefit the Orkeeswa School.
