Resolution No. 16-190 provided permission to seek bids for city materials, supplies and equipment.

Purpose & Explanation

The City Administration is requesting City Council approval to authorize the City Manager to enter into a purchase agreement with Murphy Tractor and Equipment for the purchase of a replacement backhoe utilizing State Bid Contract number STS 515 800528 in the amount of $90,635.58.  Staff budgeted $130,000 for this purchase. The purchase price has since come down, and the STS pricing is very competitive.

This piece of equipment is used for the maintenance and emergency repair of the City’s water distribution infrastructure.  The unit has reached its useful life and has through cab rust, hydraulic drift, warn armature pins, ram and fitting hydraulic leaks and declining power output. 

Timing Considerations

Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will award and enter into a purchase agreement with Murphy Tractor and Equipment.

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that City Council approve this Resolution authorizing the City Manager to award and enter into a purchase agreement with Murphy Tractor and Equipment, 1509 Raff Road SW, Canton, Ohio 44710 for the above amount. An emergency clause has been added due to the attached quotation expiring on February 23, 2017
