Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH OHIO CAT FOR A MINI HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR FOR THE STORM WATER DIVISION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

Executive Summary:   Per the approved 2017 storm water budget, the Public Works Department has obtained pricing for the purchase of a mini hydraulic excavator for usage in Storm Water.  This will eliminate the cost of annually renting this equipment.

Body

Legislative History

Resolution No. 16-190 provided permission to seek bids and competitive pricing for the 2017 budget year.

Purpose & Explanation

Historically, the Public Works Department has obtained competitive bids for the rental of a mini-excavator during the summer months.  These costs have averaged $20,000 annually.  In 2016 staff recommended that the City consider purchasing this piece of equipment in the 2017 budget as it is getting considerable use within the storm water work group.  The unit is compact and allows for better and safer maneuverability with less property damage.  The expected life of this unit is 15-20 years.

Staff budgeted $95,000 for the purchase in the 2017 budget.  The total cost of the excavator will be $94,399.58.  We have received this pricing through State Bid Contract STS 515-800525.

Timing Considerations

Staff requests emergency legislation to hold pricing and expedite the equipment order.
