Purpose & Explanation
In the City's 2017 budget, $35,000 was allocated for the replacement of a parks operations pickup truck currently utilized by the parks maintenance staff. The current truck is being used for movement of supplies and materials, staff transportation and towing of large capacity mowing equipment. This truck is a 2002 Ford F-150, with 103,703 miles and is in the 8-10 year replacement range. The body and frame have severe rust though and the unit will need structural and body work to keep in service. The unit is in need of major engine work as well. As such, the fleet department had recommended replacement in 2017. This vehicle will be auctioned accordingly through the City's Govdeals auction service contract.

The PW Assistant Director overseeing parks, golf and cemeteries (Mr. Wash) is currently assigned to a 2010 parks truck that is in much better condition than the 2002 unit described above. We will transfer this truck to parks maintenance and they will be able to get a few more service years out of it. We recommend replacing the 2002 unit with a ford explorer which is a more appropriate vehicle for supervision and director responsibilities. This replacement option represents a savings of $4,184 over purchasing a replacement truck.
