Legislative History
Resolution No. 16-190, permission to bid.
Purpose & Explanation
A Request for Proposals for the aerial installation of fiber-optic cable to continue the business broadband system build-out was advertised publicly per the City Charter. The bidding document was developed to give us unit pricing by the use of minimum quantities and to assist in building the remainder of the business deployment. We can then use the unit pricing and calculate the costs and resources needed for each phase of the project. The Public Works Department received one (1) bid for this service as related to the City broadband project.
The following are estimated quantities needed to complete the build out of the business portion of this project; 65,000 linear feet of ADSS fiber optic cable, 5 instances of traffic control and record/ as-builds, and 1,500 fusion splices. The areas that will benefit from this contract are portions of the Historic Downtown, Darrow Road corridor, Corporate Drive, Hudson Crossings, and Patriot Parkway
The City Administration is requesting City Council approve and authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Thayer Power & Communication for the aerial fiber-optic cable installation. Staff is requesting an amount of $204,375 and a 10% contingency for any unforeseen issues that may arise during construction.
Total Contract amount = $224,812 ($159,250 - aerial installation + $37,500 - fusion splices + $7,500 - traffic control + $125 - records + $20,437 - contingency)
Timing Considerations
Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will award and enter into a contract with Thayer Power & Communicat...
