A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS AND ENTER INTO A CONTRACT FOR THE REPAINTING OF FIRE HYDRANTS ON THE AKRON WATER SYSTEM IN HUDSON WITH THE LOWEST AND BEST BIDDER; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

Purpose & Explanation

The Akron water system fire hydrants have not been cleaned and painted in over 15 years.  This process will extend the useful life of the hydrants, as well increase the visibility.  Fire hydrants are painted to protect the exterior metal parts from deterioration. The intent is to have as many, if not all, of the Akron hydrants painted in 2017 within the budgeted amount.

                         Supplemental Appropriation Required

                       Appropriation Not Required.

Recommendation

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that City Council approve this authorization for the City Manager to advertise, receive bids and award to the lowest and best or lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the Akron water system hydrant repainting project.  We are requesting an emergency clause be added to this resolution in order to maximize summer weather conditions for the project.
