Title
A MOTION TO APPROVE THE PROPOSED 2018 CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE.
Executive Summary: A proposed meeting schedule for the new year has been prepared for Council’s review and approval.
Body
Legislative History
Charter Section 3.02 states that City Council shall meet regularly at such times as prescribed by its rules, but not less frequently than twice each month. Pursuant to the Council Rules, Chapter 220 of the Codified Ordinances, regular meetings of Council shall be held in the Council Chambers at 27 East Main Street on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m., and workshop meetings of City Council shall generally take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays and shall be held at 7:30 p.m.
Purpose & Explanation
The proposed 2018 meeting schedule follows the established rules of Council, allowing for recess periods in mid-summer and late December, which include holidays recognized by the City.
Exceptions to the rules: Being that there are five Tuesdays in January, and the City recognizes January 2, 2018, as a municipal holiday per the Employee Handbook and Personnel Rules, it is proposed that meetings and workshops are pushed back by one week, rather than cancelling the first meeting in January. A similar scenario will apply in 2019, as the first Tuesday falls on January 1, 2019.
In addition to its regular meetings and workshops, City Council has scheduled a retreat on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The time and location are yet to be determined.
