Body
Legislative History
Resolution No. 17-159, authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract with Cargill through the Community University Education (C.U.E.) Purchasing Association Program for the purchase of road salt for the 2017-2018 winter season; passed October 17, 2017.
Purpose & Explanation
In recent weeks the Cargill Salt Co. has been unable to fulfill and deliver its road salt orders. As such, the City of Hudson, along with most other Ohio municipalities and townships that purchase salt material from Cargill have been running their snow and ice control programs with a drastically reduced amount of rock salt. Cargill's most recent press release indicated the following:
"With the number of winter snowstorms recently, Cargill has seen a surge in road salt orders that has temporarily constrained our inventories....."
Public Works staff located an alternate supplier and has made purchase of an available 500 tons of road salt from Rock Salt USA shipped out of Columbus, Ohio. For reference, the City's program requires 90-100 tons of salt to treat all City streets one time through.
Emergency purchase detail:
Purchase/Delivery Price $124.00 per ton
Purchase amount 500 tons
Total $62,000.00
Note: our current 2018 contract price with Cargill through the Community University Education Purchasing Association is $48.47 per ton delivered.
