Purpose & Explanation
The City of Hudson was awarded a grant to improve the intersection of SR 91/SR 303 in 2016 from the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) STBG Grant. The grant was awarded to Hudson to improve the capacity and design of the intersection.
In March of 2018, the City of Hudson sent out a request for qualified consultants to submit their proposals and ideas for improving the intersection, and the City staff interviewed several consultants on their proposals based on the constraints of the intersection.
Following a thorough review by the City Staff of the preliminary solutions by the consultants for this project and based on results of the recent Downtown Phase 2 Traffic Study, it is City staff's opinion that to significantly improve the intersection, the City would need to make major infrastructure improvements that could significantly impact the historic greens and character of this intersection.
Based on our review of the limited design options and the historical constraints of the intersection, the City Staff is requesting to return the funds allocated to the City for this intersection and to pursue less impactive solutions.
The City staff will review less impactive options for the downtown as part of the 5-year capital budget, and if the City is not satisfied with the results of these solutions in the future, the City can pursue grant funding at a future time for the SR 91/303 intersection.
