Purpose & Explanation
Bids were received on August 16, 2018 for the Hudson Drive Waterline Extension Project. Staff bid out the project with two options. Option 1- Extending the Hudson water system from the Metro RTA railroad tracks, along the Metroparks Hike & Bike Trail and then along Hudson Drive. Option 2 - Extending the Akron water system along Hudson Drive. See attached Exhibit A for further reference.
Staff is recommending Council go with Option 2, extension of the Akron system along Hudson Drive. Below is the Engineer's Estimate along with the respective bids.
Engineer's Estimate: Option 2 (Akron) = $278,450.00
M. Campbell Contracting, LLC. $285,347.00
Lockhart Concrete Company $298,488.00
Precise Boring of Ohio $2,409,450.00
The Engineering Staff is requesting a 10% construction contingency for any unforeseen issues that may arise during construction. The total amount of the construction contract would be $313,881.70.
Total Construction Contract = $313,881.70 ($285,347-base + $28,534.70-contingency)
Staff is also requesting funds to cover the costs associated with Akron's inspection fee for the project estimated at $4,004.00 for a total project cost of $317,885.70 ($4,004 + $313,881,70).
Timing Considerations
Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will award and enter into a contract.
