Purpose & Explanation
In the 2018 Fleet Capital Fund, 601-7830, $750,000 was allocated for the replacement of nine vehicles and a street sweeper. Upon further discussions, staff opted to increase contracted street sweeping services instead of pursuing the replacement of a street sweeper. A portion of the street sweeper funding was needed for increased contractual services and a portion of the funding remains unspent. These unspent funds would be used to purchase a new Explorer to be used by the City's new Zoning Inspector as well as by other Community Development staff. The vehicle to be replaced is a 2005 Chevy Impala which is beginning to show its age and have reliability issues. Staff has received pricing from two different sources for a new Explorer, with Montrose Auto Group coming in with the lowest cost at $29,013.38.
Timing Considerations
If approved, staff will need to proceed quickly with the purchase to take advantage of 2018 pricing and not be subject to possible cost increases, which could occur with 2019 pricing. Therefore, staff requests emergency legislation to expedite the process of the vehicle purchase.
