Purpose & Explanation
The City's Veterans Trail Plan includes a 10' wide trail planned along Prospect Street connecting future trails on Hines Hill Road to Morse Road (see Exhibit A).
As a portion of this future trail crosses the Ohio Turnpike, staff approached the Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission (OTIC) regarding widening of the bridge along the west side of Prospect Street. OTIC has agreed to include the widening of the bridge as part of their scheduled maintenance repairs on the bridge, as long as the City pays for the design and construction costs associated with the bridge widening portion of the project.
To identify the costs of the bridge widening, OTIC hired a professional bridge design consultant to evaluate the bridge and identify the estimated costs. A copy of the preliminary study is attached as Exhibit B. The estimated cost for the design of the bridge widening is estimated at $148,427, the construction cost is estimated at $1,541,000, and the construction administration & inspection costs are estimated at 15% of the construction costs for an amount of $231,150. All costs include contingency. The total City-cost for design, construction, and construction administration and inspection of the widened bridge is estimated at $1,920,577.
The City's budget for the design work was $50,000 (updated cost is $98,427 over budget) and the budget for construction was $1,000,000 (updated cost is $541,000 over budget). No budget costs were set aside for construction administ...
