Purpose & Explanation
Staff sought funding the Federal Emergency Management Agency through a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to fund the continuation of the Fire Safe Senior Program that was initiated through Fire Prevention & Safety Grant funding in 2019. The Fire Safe Senior program provides free fire safety products for Hudson residents over 65 that are living independently in their own homes. Funds will used to purchase secure key boxes and carbon monoxide detectors for distribution to qualifying residents. The Hudson Fire Department was awarded $46,342.86 on September 11, 2020. The City’s match is $2,318.14. Funds must be accepted by October 11, 2020, 30 days after the notification date.

Suggested Action
Staff recommends that Council pass this Resolution, authorizing the City Manager’s Designee’s acceptance of a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the Hudson Fire Department. This Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety convenience and welfare of the City of Hudson and inhabitants thereof, and for the further reason that the City must formally accept aforesaid funding by October 11, 2020 or the grant will be forfeited; wherefore, this Resolution shall be in effect immediately upon its passage provided it receives the affirmative vote of five members of Council, except that six affirmative votes shall be required if all members are present; otherwise, it shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
