A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL, INC. IN HUDSON AND ESTABLISHING A “KEEP HUDSON BEAUTIFUL” COMMITTEE.
Executive Summary: This Resolution provides formal support of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. and establishes the Keep Hudson Beautiful Committee as an advisory committee to the Environmental Awareness Committee.
Body
Legislative History
Ordinance No. 08-123, establishing the Environmental Awareness Committee, passed September 17, 2008 (ref. Codified Ordinances, Chapter 293, Environmental Awareness Committee).
Resolution No. 16-71, authorizing an agreement with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) and accepting 2016 Litter Management Grant Funding (received $2,700 towards the cost of training required for the City to acquire “Keep America Beautiful” affiliation), passed May 3, 2016.
Purpose & Explanation
The City of Hudson established the Environmental Awareness Committee in 2008. The City has supported recycling education and has proclaimed “Hudson’s Recycling Day,” a program affiliated with Keep America Beautiful, the last two years on November 15th.
The City Administration received the 2016 Litter Management Grant from the OEPA for the application and training to become a “Keep America Beautiful” affiliate. The Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) members and the Public Works Department staff underwent program training and met the program criteria. On June 29, 2017, Keep America Beautiful recognized the Keep Hudson Beautiful affiliate. The Keep Hudson Beautiful (KHB) Committee will be an advisory committee to the EAC. Three EAC members will lead the KHB Committee, which will also be composed of volunteer support from local businesses, community groups and organizations. The EAC will appoint members to the KHB Committee. The KHB Committee will meet at least four times per year.
The KHB Committee will promote litter prevention, increased recycling, environmental protection, and promotion of the beautification of our City by using programs developed by Keep America Beautiful, Inc. The KHB Committee may plan new events or enhance other community events which will focus on the Committee’s mission statement. The KHB Committee will look at grants and programs available through Keep America Beautiful to help with supplies for Hudson Community Service Day, beautification of public spaces, and to improve recycling and reduce litter at public events.
