Executive Summary: The Hudson Water Department wishes to purchase a rubber tire backhoe for the purpose of maintaining the water distribution system and grounds maintenance tasks. This new unit will replace the existing 20 year old unit that has reached the end of its usable life. Typically the industry standard for such pieces of equipment range from 12 to 15 years, but due to our maintenance program we were able to extend the replacement schedule.

Resolution No. 16-190 provided permission to seek bids for city materials, supplies and equipment.
Purpose & Explanation
The City Administration is requesting City Council approval to authorize the City Manager to enter into a purchase agreement with Murphy Tractor and Equipment for the purchase of a replacement backhoe utilizing State Bid Contract number STS 515 800528 in the amount of $90,635.58. Staff budgeted $130,000 for this purchase. The purchase price has since come down, and the STS pricing is very competitive.
This piece of equipment is used for the maintenance and emergency repair of the City's water distribution infrastructure. The unit has reached its useful life and has through cab rust, hydraulic drift, warn armature pins, ram and fitting hydraulic leaks and declining power output.
Timing Considerations
Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will award and enter into a purchase agreement with Murphy Tractor and Equipment.
