Purpose & Explanation

Staff seeks authorization to apply for a Fire Prevention & Safety Grant to implement a fire prevention program aimed at the at-risk senior citizen population. The program would include installation of residential key security boxes and hearing impaired smoke detectors in 100 homes.  The grant could fund up to approximately $51,000 requiring a 5% match (approximately $2,550).

Timing Considerations

The deadline for the application is March 16, 2018.

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that Council authorize the City Manager, or her designee, to apply for grant funding through the Department of Homeland Security’s FEMA Fire Prevention & Safety Grant program on behalf of the Hudson Fire Department.
