Res. No. 15-13 - Enter into a contract for the first phase of design
Res. No. 17-7 - Enter into contract for the final phase of design
Purpose & Explanation
The original contract for the final design of the SR 91 North Turn Lanes improvement included a 5% design contingency. Through the course of the project design, a number of additional, unforeseen design items were discovered which have eroded the contingency funds.
The most recent plan package has been re-submitted to the City, ODOT, Ohio Turnpike, and utility owners for final comments. Additional roadway plan revisions, environmental permit management (historic, cultural resources, park lands, streams/wetlands permitting), and outside agency/utility coordination is anticipated in order to finalize the design. Staff also anticipates the need for consultant services for pre-bid (questions regarding bidder inquiries on design) and construction related questions (unforeseen design conflicts needing resolution during construction). Staff is requesting an increase of $20,775 to the original contract as outlined below:
Additional Design Work Cost
Extra Plan & Permit Revisions $14,775
Pre-Bid Consultant Services (If Authorized) $3,000
Construction Consultant Services (If Authorized) $3,000
Total $20,775
The City staff does not anticipate any additional costs for this project and the final design will be completed in the Fall, 2018 and ready to bid for construction in early 2019.
Timing Considerations
Staff asks Council to act on the Resolution as soon as it is able.
